Our Camp Cooks program allows children to learn about, play with, and get creative with food! They’ll get their hands dirty in our gardens and discover various ways to cook and bake using fire, camping/backpacking stoves, gas griddles/grills, pie irons, Dutch and solar ovens, or over coals! Children will learn about how food is grown, where food comes from, and healthy eating habits. They’ll collaboratively plan, prepare, and cook or bake snacks and meals. Students will create and cook their own lunches together during this camp! Potential Cook/Bake Options: Fruit-infused pancakes, banana bread, breakfast burritos, tacos/nachos, pie iron pizza, veggie skewers, pasta dishes, orange-wrapped blueberry muffins, Dutch oven mac & cheese, foil-wrapped sweet potatoes, Dutch oven cake, veggie-potato stew, street corn, campfire apple crisp, red lentil sloppy joes, and more! What to Wear: Children may dress like they are going to the playground- comfortable clothing that is not restrictive. Shoes must have backstrap and toe coverings (no flip flops or open-toe shoes). A rain jacket is needed if it is raining. We do have lots of shady spots on the farm. Staff: All camps through Maverick Outdoors are led by experienced outdoor educators who have completed thorough training and are well-educated in providing safe and memorable youth camp experiences. Students: Please see our behavior expectations for students attending Maverick Outdoors camps. Should a child be incapable of following our behavior expectations, the child will be dismissed from camp without a refund. Should one-on-one care be needed, a state-certified aide can accompany the child. Unfortunately, at this time, our staff is not trained to provide one-on-one support. Payment: Required in full at registration. 80% refundable if canceled 90+ days from the program start. 60% refundable 60-89 days, 40% 30-59 days, 20% 14-29 days, and 0% 0-13 days.
