Service Description
Wilderness Skills camp is for those who thrive outside and want to further develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence in an outdoor setting. Children will work together exploring and developing wilderness skills such as building shelters, collecting and filtering water, tying knots, signaling for help, making fire (using various methods), knife skills/safety, and orienteering/navigation using a map and compass. They’ll learn the basics about the ten essentials, clothing, footwear, gear, campsite selection, and first aid. Children will increase their understanding of wayfinding, distance/pace, terrain considerations (river crossings, elevation, sand, lava rock, etc.), weather considerations (rain/snow, heat/cold, lightning, etc.), self-care, wildlife safety/response, and Leave No Trace practices. This camp is super fun and informative and provides a strong balance of learning and adventure! Throughout camp, children will create survival bracelets or necklaces and will carve their own eating utensils to bring home.
